Babons Cancer Support was established in 2024 and has assisted, advised and listened to many clients at their cancer support drop-in centre in Tonbridge High Street.
It was created in memory of Jean Spickernell (called Babon by her grandchildren) who lost her life to cancer in 2022. Jean loved her community and always looked for ways to help others even when she needed help herself.
Their counselling service is delivered by qualified counsellors, or student counsellors in at least their 2nd year of training. They offer a confidential, safe space to talk through the things you’re struggling with.
They have set up support groups because sometime it’s helpful to meet others facing a similar situation to you.
Babons also offer drop-in emotional support. Talking to those closest to you can help, but sometimes having a neutral person outside of the situation can be of great benefit. Many people find that talking to someone helps them to deal with the difficult things they’re facing and to learn new ways of coping.
Babons understands that when someone is diagnosed with cancer, new things enter your world, and you may have questions about things that you’ve never had to think about before. Whilst talking about those things can help process difficult emotions, their Signposting Service aims to address some of the practical needs that arise.
