Babons Cancer Support was established in 2024 and has assisted, advised and listened to many clients at their cancer support drop-in centre in Tonbridge High Street. It was created in memory of Jean Spickernell (called Babon by her grandchildren) who lost her life to cancer in 2022.

Their counselling service is delivered by qualified counsellors, or student counsellors in at least their 2nd year of training. They have also set up support groups because sometimes it’s helpful to meet others facing a similar situation to you.

Babons also offer drop-in emotional support. Talking to those closest to you can help, but having a neutral person outside of the situation can also be of great benefit. Whilst talking about those things can help process difficult emotions, their Signposting Service aims to address some of the practical needs that arise.

In September 2025, the Club invited Heidi Foad and Tracy Spickernell, who founded the charity, to talk about their work at one of our regular meetings. President Peter Thomas and fellow Rotarians Phil Higgins (L) and Barry Ednie (R) then visited the Babon’s new offices and drop-in centre to present them with a cheque for £500.
